A tiny glimpse from the Introduction of My Research proposal.

Review regarding Poverty among Urban areas.

Poverty is a multifaceted phenomenon. Many authors have
referred to the multifaceted nature of poverty.
A number of empirical studies bring to focus its economic and sociological aspects. Since the process of structural transformation of a society, in terms of the changing
occupational patterns has been only marginal, the problem of poverty perpetuates.
Vyas (1976) points out that social transformation has been restricted to small parts of the country and in the meantime after independence thestruggle between castes has increased. This accentuates the problem of alleviating poverty.
The study focuses on the magnitude and intensity of poverty in the study region, highlighting the distributional inequality, which manifests itself in income, wealth and consumption expenditure of households. In general, the inequality is traceable to the differences in the social hierarchy that goes with a structured society.
Certain deep rooted sociological causes like the placement of households in lower caste groups, lucrative forms of non-farm employment are not available much to the lower castes especially the scheduled castes as compared to the upper castes.
Gunnar Myrdal (1968) says that social and economic factors are intertwined with each other.
